About Us

Located on over 50 acres in Parkton, North Carolina, Jerry King’s Training is often the first stop for many horses before stepping into specialized training for a future career.

The term “breaking” is used to describe the process of training or starting a young horse to be ridden. At Jerry King’s Training, expert horse trainer Jerry King actually prefers to call this process “building” a foundation instead. This philosophy has guided Jerry King’s Training into its 25th year of success in horse training.

"I've been in the barn my whole life," Jerry laughs. "I started riding when I was a little bitty kid. By the time I was a teenager I was already training horses." Jerry Spent most of his life in Duplin, North Carolina, until 1997 when he and his wife, Liz, moved the farm to Parkton. "We found this place with 50 acres, and built 25 stalls with a covered area. The location near Raleigh, between New York and Florida ideal for training horses."

Jerry has done business with many owners and trainers in the Southern Pines and surrounding areas, including Parker and Ed Minchin, Dianne and LP Tate, Mary Beth Mclean, Gene Parker, Kris Hamilton, Jamie and Noel McDevitt, Don Sheehan, Sandra and Fred Brown, Keady Cadwell, Leslie Griewe, Terry Spell and Monica Watson.

Testimonials

Our customers are very important to us. Thanks for your continued support of our business.

Carsyn came home Friday after 3 months at your place. I loaded him up yesterday and took him to the Moss Foundation in Southern Pines. I could not have asked for him to be any better. He was interested in his surroundings and everything going on but he was brave, calm, quiet..... and very obedient. There were three of us riding and he lead, rode in the middle and brought up the rear and he was the same horse no matter where he was. A couple of times their horses acted up but he ignored them and stayed the course. His behavior was what I would expect from a horse with several years of riding experience. I am extremely pleased with Jerry and his staff.

Liz and Jerry give horses a great foundation for whatever discipline you want to use your horse in...hunter/jumper, dressage, eventing, and driving trainers have all used them to start their young horses. This is also a great place to send horses with attitude problems, they can fix problems, or start young ones and get them headed in the right direction for their future job.

I just wanted you to know how grateful I am that Woody is in your hands. You are doing the best job starting him. He looks wonderful and happy. I am thrilled. I love this boy dearly having lost my two last foals. Thanks again and I am so pleased you like him!
